New Horizons Holdin' Ground Project - with Bay Roberts 50 Plus Club

The Foundation has been working with the Bay Roberts 50 Plus Club and with students of Ascension Collegiate on a project to record the memories of seniors in the community. The Ascension students interviewed selected seniors in the community asking them about various aspects of their lives. The interviews were conducted in a variety of formats: audio, text transcription, audio transcription, and video.

Those interviewed signed permission slips about how the material could be used. For those who gave permission, a website is now online with links to interviews which have been placed on YouTube.

For those who did not wish to be placed on the Internet, the materials are going to be duplicated and given to Ascension Collegiate, the 50 PLus Club, the Bay Roberts Cultural Foundation, and the Bay Roberts Archives.

Cooperation with Groups - Promotion of Each Other's Activities

As a relatively new organization, in an area with over 400 years of history, the Bay Roberts Cultural Foundation is finding its way. The Foundation is actively seeking individuals and groups to partner with on projects, packages, or promotions.

Although the geographic area is large, In terms of population, the entire Baccalieu Trail region has about 40,000 people. As a result, it is necessary for people and groups to support each other. Last summer, the Bay Roberts Cultural Foundation made an agreement with the following groups to cross promote each other's events.

  • Victoria LOL #3 Museum and Playhouse > >
  • The Victoria Loyal Orange Lodge #3 is the oldest public building in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Brenda and Jerry Mercer, whose families have historic roots in the town, were determined to preserve the building and many of its historic contents. They offer the following to the general public:

Tour of Orange Order Museum. Visitors are invited tour the museum which preserves and displays artifacts of the Orange Order in Bay Roberts, some dating back to 1871. In addition, artifacts have been collected from Orange Lodges from Brigus to Carbonear, as well as other item of historic significance, can be seen and examined.

Plays of David French. Visitors can partake of plays by Coley’s Point born David French, an award winning playwright whose works are presented in Canada and in many other parts of the world. In the summer of 2009, his play "A Soldier's Heart" is being produced.

Heritage Horse and Carriage Rides. In addition, they can enjoy heritage interpretative horse and carriage rides to various parts of the historic and scenic town of Bay Roberts.

  • Baccalieu Players in Brigus
