Gosse Family Singing & Acting Jim Payne's "Wave Over Wave" - Michelle plays Able's Wife.

Gosse Family Singing 'The Badger Drive' and 'We'll Rant and We'll Roar Like True Newfoundlanders'

People from Bay Roberts, and surrounding towns who attended Ascension Collegiate in the 1960s to the 1990s, are very familiar with the Gosse Family, especially Lewis. Students and visitors looked forward to Lewis's vocal and instrumental presentations at Ascension Assemblies and were thrilled when Sonya and Michele returned home to give guest appearances.

About the Gosse Family

Lewis Gosse

Lewis, the Dad, hails from Spaniard's Bay, but has lived in Bay Roberts with his wife Janet for 47 years. They raised their three children, Michele, Sonya and Ward in Bay Roberts. His musicality became evident at an early age, playing the pump organ 'by ear' in his family home, and he quickly became the local singer as a very young boy. In the 60s he performed on "To Praise My God", a CBC radio production, and did a brief stint with a CJON TV show called "Musical Showcase".  Before retiring, he was an English teacher, and English Department Head, with the bulk of his career spent at Ascension Collegiate. He also performed as a singer/keyboardist with a four man band called "The Rendition" and has done many engagements as a Master of Ceremonies for a variety of events, renowned for his story and joke telling ability. He plays piano, keyboard, and piano accordion, to accompany his smooth vocals.

Retired from teaching for 20 years, he still leads a very active life. His hobbies of vegetable gardening and carpentry keep him busy, but his kids keep his fingers nimble and his voice tuned by encouraging him to constantly perform, on his own and with his daughters - time he truly cherishes.

Michele

Michele moved to Gander in 1987 and lives there with her husband Brian and 16 year old son, Alex . By day, she's a teacher at St. Paul's Intermediate, but fills her evenings with theatre and music. As a very active member of Gander's theatre group Avion Players for 23 years, she has won both Provincial and National awards for acting and directing. She also conducts Gander's Community Choir, Centre Chorale, and is very involved with performing as a solo singer. With many stage experiences under her belt, nothing compares to the joy of performing with her family.

Sonya

Sonya, a native of Bay Roberts, has resided in Toronto for 20 years. She enjoys a busy life with her husband, Wayne, and their three pugs. Sonya works with the Canadian Opera Company and teaches voice lessons at Cresent School, a private boys' school.

She has performed with Edmonton Opera as Ruth in Pirates of Penzance and Opera Canada Magazine dubbed her, "the funniest person in the cast and a crowd favourite."

Each year, she returns to her summer home in Clarke's Beach for some R&R and to spend time with family and friends. This affords her the opportunity to do one of the things she misses most - performing with her family.

We look forward to seeing you at the performance!!
